I spent the last week or so in the town of Madridejos, a smaller island off Cebu, as our family is in charge of one of the carrozas for the Holy Week celebration. This would be my first return trip in three years and my first time visiting my parents’ island hometown after it was ravaged by the super typhoon late last year.
A lot of things have changed, yet many things essentially remain the same. The landscape has definitely changed, but the will of the people to thrive has not. And this is shown in the droves of people that joined this year’s procession, a multitude of souls thankful for the fact that despite the abrupt pause caused by the storm, life goes on.
